Tourism industry plays host to MPs for British Tourism Week
Tourism contributes more than £10 billion to the South East economy annually, with the industry employing around 250,000 people in the region. British Tourim Week (BTW), from 12 - 18 March 2007, aimed to raise national awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain's £74 billion visitor economy.
Throughout the week, South East MPs showed support for their constituencies' tourism industry by attending a BTW briefing event at a local tourism business. These ranged from hotels and visitor attractions to Tourist Information Centres.
The following MPs met with local representatives from the industry and TSE during BTW:
- Dr Phyllis Starkey - Milton Keynes South West
- Rt Hon Andrew Smith - Oxford East
- Richard Benyon - Newbury
- Roger Gale - Thanet North
- David Lepper - Brighton, Pavilion
