Improving Your Energy Efficiency
...saving energy = saving money...
With world energy prices rising and water shortages
affecting some parts of the South East, energy efficiency is becoming more important than ever. To help combat this, TSE have produced a guide to reducing your energy use and saving money.
Energy Efficiency Leaflet
From switching off lights to installing efficient boilers, the guide offers ideas and suggestions to help you reduce fuel bills, improve your environmental performance and increase your margins. Whatever your business, there is always potential to save money through careful energy management and you do not have to be a committed environmentalist to improve performance; just taking a few simple, cheap and effective measures can help.

The guide has been produced in collaboration with EDF Energy and below are some good reasons why this guide will help you and your business:
- Heating costs rise by 8% for every 1°C above the recommended level of 19-20°C
- An insulated building can help reduce heat loss by 40%
- Leaving a photocopier on at night uses enough energy to print over 1,500 A4 copies
- Switching off a monitor in the evenings can save enough energy to print over 3,000 A4 pages

Hospitable Climates
Hospitable Climates is the FREE energy advisory programme for the hospitality sector, funded by Carbon Trust, managed by the Institute of Hospitality and supported by Tourism South East.
Launched in 2000 and now boasting over 6000 members Hospitable Climates has made an important contribution to the government's carbon dioxide emissions reduction target. In response to the increasingly sophisticated environmental needs of the industry, Hospitable Climates is transforming into a comprehensive environmental portal offering best practice advice and information on; energy efficiency, building design, water and waste management, sustainable food procurement and renewable energy technologies. It is intended that the new resource will provide an authoritative one stop shop from which hospitality businesses may obtain the information and advice they need in order to manage their environmental impact successfully. The enhanced programme is due to launch in April 08.

Water Shortages
Water shortages are becoming a major issue for the South East and TSE is taking a proactive stance by working closely with the region's water companies to minimise any potential future impact for the region.
TSE has produced stickers and promotional cards, in partnership with three of the region's water companies, which remind guests of the importance of minimising water usage. They have been widely distributed by post and through selected TICs or can be downloaded from the Water Shortages page.
TSE's Chairman, Nigel Walmsley, also wrote to the water companies of the South East stressing the importance of tourism and highlighting the effects restrictions could have on businesses. The water companies' responses have largely been reassuring, as well as noting the special requirements of the industry in terms of future decision making.
Further information on TSE's work on Water Shortages is available from the Industry Issues section of the site.
