Like any industry, tourism is surrounded by a plethora of laws and regulations which you will need to be aware of. We try to make these issues simpler so that you can get on with running your business.

Health and Safety

This is an area governed by many different regulations. TSE provide information as well as links to other organisations who specialise in advising on Health and Safety issues.

Fire Regulations

New regulations were introduced on October 1st 2006 requiring all businesses to complete a fire risk assessment. This replaces the fire certificate which has now been abolished.

Food Safety

A duty for managers to record food handling and hygiene practices has been introduced in safety regulations that came into affect on 1st January 2006.

Preventing Illegal Working

Guidance has been published by the Home Office to help employers to avoid hiring illegal workers. The penalty for not doing so can be £5,000 so this is an important issue.

Environmental Legislation

Information is available on the many rules and regulations regarding the environment that operators in the tourism industry should be aware of.

Access Statements

Access Statements are now required for Quality in Tourism accreditation.

National Code of Practice

VisitBritain have announced a new national code of practice for visitor attractions.
